Besseae Aff. 'Rainbow'
We nicknamed our Besseae aff. 'Rainbow' because of the holographic, color-shifting quality of its new leaves. The emergent comes out blood red. As the new leaf expands and gains size, other colors start to layer on top of the red. Together, a vibrant display of iridescence shows up on the leaf temporarily. As the leaf grows to its maximum size and hardens, the color story shifts to a more solid grey green shade with a cool sheen, just like a dense velvet fabric. The leaf is also very thick and stiff like cupboard, making it quite resistant to any slight physical disturbance.
